Calvary Cemetery is a religious non-profit cemetery owned by St. Philip’s Catholic Church (“Parish”) of Hankinson, ND. Parish owns and operates Cemetery in accordance with the rules of the Roman Catholic Church and the Statutes of the Diocese of Fargo.
Title to the land in any lot in Calvary Cemetery shall remain in ownership of St. Philip’s Church. Persons desiring to be buried in Calvary Cemetery shall purchase burial rights. No burial rights shall be sold in joint ownership. Title shall stand in one name. No money will be refunded when burial rights are deeded back to St. Philip’s Church.
St. Philip’s Church shall have the right to enlarge, reduce, replot, change boundaries of Calvary Cemetery, change sections of Calvary Cemetery, change locations of roads, gutters, pipelines, etc., without notice to holders of burial rights.
The right to interment on a lot is granted only to the Holder of Burial Rights. The Parish reserves the right to refuse to permit the interment of anyone who is not at the time of death the Holder of Burial Rights.
Purchased burial rites that have no activity for 60 years with no living Holder of Burial Rights or immediate heir will revert to St. Philip’s Church.
Calvary Cemetery will be open for interments at reasonable hours every day of the year, providing burial conditions are feasible. Whenever possible, interments on Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, and legal holidays should be avoided. NO burials will be conducted before May 15th unless ground conditions are suitable for burial.
All coffins are required to be in a vault.
Each grave may have a maximum of
1. One (1) full burial and one (1) cremains burial and/or
2. Two (2) cremains burials
Adding cremation on top of an existing grave may be allowed if approved by Sexton. The Holder of Burial rights, Personal Representative, or all direct heirs must authorize for cremains to be added to an existing burial.

The general care of Calvary Cemetery shall be assumed by St. Philip’s Church. General care will consist of cutting the grass at reasonable intervals, the pruning of shrubs and trees, replacement of soil on individual lots, reseeding and watering of grass and the general preservation of the property. General care will not include care of monuments and markers.
All monument headstones and footstones shall be in accordance with the specifications provided by the Sexton. Prior approval from the Sexton is required prior to foundation work being permitted.
Monument companies are responsible for any damage to any cemetery property or headstones, while installing markers. Monument companies must make arrangements with St. Philip’s Church prior to any installation.
The cemetery map is located on the north side of the maintenance building.
In respect for our loved ones, decorations cannot cover any writing on headstone or footstone.
Flowers in pots or vases permanently attached to headstone are permitted.
Potted plants and flowers not permanently attached to the headstone are allowed May 15 to June 15.
Decorations that push into ground with a diameter 3/8” or greater may be allowed if right next to the cement base of the headstone.
The Cemetery has authority to remove all items which are contrary to the regulations and is not responsible for such items.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Only service dogs allowed.
