The Hankinson Fire Department was called to St. Philip's Catholic Church in Hankinson at 4:20 pm on Monday, December 16, 2024 after a fire broke out in the church attic. Two of our parishioners entered the church shortly after the fire was reported and removed the Blessed Sacrament, a few sacred articles and vestments before being told not to re-enter the structure.
The fire was mainly concentrated in the attic of the church the entire ceiling will probably need to be replaced. Preliminary estimates are the structure itself may be saved, but that determination will depend on more thorough inspections. No cause of the fire has been established, and there's no estimate as to the cost of the damage as of yet.
The Franciscan Sisters of Dillingen in Hankinson have graciously offered their main chapel for the parish to celebrate Masses for the foreseeable future.
Msgr. Donahue expresses his personal thanks for all of your prayers for St. Philip’s following our tragic fire in the parish church.
